Description
Explore Scientific 5.5mm 62 Series 1.25″ Waterproof Eyepiece
If youre looking to pull in crisp planetary detail, split tight double stars, or take advantage of excellent seeing on deep-sky targets, the Explore Scientific 5.5mm 62 Series eyepiece is a high-performance tool designed to deliver sharp, contrast-rich views across a broad range of telescopes. With a 62 apparent field of view, this compact 1.25″ eyepiece strikes a sweet spot between immersive wide-angle views and pinpoint optical precision.
Optical Performance That Punches Above Its Price
The 5.5mm focal length makes this eyepiece ideal for high-magnification observing, especially when paired with short to medium focal length refractors or catadioptric telescopes. Whether you’re teasing out subtle details on Jupiters belts or chasing tight planetary nebulae, the eyepiece maintains excellent sharpness across the field. The fully multi-coated optics and blackened lens edges work together to minimize internal reflections and maximize light transmission. Expect rich contrast, well-controlled ghosting, and impressive edge-to-edge clarityeven at high power.
Comfortable Eye Relief, Thoughtful Design
Despite its short focal length, this eyepiece offers a surprisingly comfortable 13mm of eye relief, making it accessible for most observers, including those who wear glasses. The twist-up rubber eyecup lets you easily adjust for personal comfort and helps with eye positioning to maintain the full field of view.
Its sturdy anodized aluminum barrel is precisely machined and features a smooth, slip-free gripeven in colder conditions when gloves are a must. Like all Explore Scientific eyepieces in the 62 series, this model is nitrogen-purged and O-ring sealed, providing complete waterproof protection. That not only helps keep internal lenses fog-free during rapid temperature changes but also makes it easier to clean without worrying about dust or moisture creeping inside.
Versatile Across a Range of Telescopes
Compatible with any telescope that accepts standard 1.25″ eyepieces, the Explore Scientific 5.5mm is a great match for refractors, Dobsonians, Schmidt-Cassegrains, and Maksutovs alike. Its moderate field of view is especially well-suited for tracking objects at high power, offering enough sky context to keep targets in view longerparticularly helpful if youre using a non-driven mount.
Field-Tested and Observer Approved
Astronomy enthusiasts consistently report that this eyepiece holds up impressively well compared to far more expensive alternatives. With a reputation for excellent build quality and optical precision, it’s a smart investment for those building out a serious high-power eyepiece collection without breaking the bank.
Whether youre chasing planetary detail or resolving globular cluster cores, the Explore Scientific 5.5mm 62 eyepiece delivers excellent results night after night. Its a rugged, refined, and reliable performer that brings out the best in your telescope.
